How To Achieve Restful Sleep Through Mindful Breathing.

As someone who has personally experienced  breathwork for better sleep, I can confidently say it’s a game-changer for my daily relaxation. After taking a breathwork class with Nicole Ananda (aka Nicole Doherty), I instantly felt my energy soften and clear, while my body relaxed in ways I hadn’t thought possible. Now, let’s dive into how you can use the transformative effects of breathwork to achieve deeper, more restorative rest.

Discover How To Achieve Deeper Sleep with Breathwork

Breathwork can become your most powerful tool for relaxing into a deeper, more restful sleep.

In August 2024, I gifted myself something truly special—a breathwork class with Nicole Anand. Let me tell you, the experience was nothing short of breathtaking. It was one of those moments that stays with you, long after the class is over. As I lay there, focusing on my breath, I could feel my energy clearing, my body relaxing deeper than it had in a long time.

At one point, I slipped into what felt like a trance or a lucid meditation state. Suddenly, I heard the words, “YOU’RE IN THE PORTAL, YOU’RE IN THE PORTAL,” and when I snapped out of it, I realized the class was still in session. It was a surreal experience, like I had stepped into another realm for a moment, only to return to the calm space Nicole had created.

That class taught me the profound power of breathwork in clearing the mind and restoring balance to the body. It’s something I highly recommend to anyone who wants to relax, reset, and experience a deeper connection with themselves.

Better Sleep is a Vital Part of your Health

Sleep is a vital part of our health, yet so many of us struggle with winding down at the end of the day. Whether it’s the weight of the day’s stress, the constant buzz of technology, or simply an overactive mind, getting a full night of restorative sleep can be elusive.

This is where breathwork comes in. Breathwork, especially when combined with yoga breathing techniques like Pranayama, helps to calm the nervous system and guide the body into a state of relaxation. By consciously controlling your breath, you can activate your parasympathetic nervous system—the part of your body responsible for rest and digest—allowing you to release stress and tension.

Pranayama is an ancient yogic practice that involves specific breathing exercises designed to balance the flow of energy in the body. Techniques like deep belly breathing (also known as diaphragmatic breathing) or alternate nostril breathing help to calm the mind and body, preparing you for a more restful night’s sleep.

Shift Your Body Back into “Rest and Digest”

When we are stressed, our body responds by entering “fight or flight” mode. In this state, our digestion, hormones, and immune system are deprioritized, as our body focuses on survival. But when we practice breathwork and yoga, we allow our bodies to shift back into “rest and digest” mode, where healing and recovery can take place.

Breathwork and Gentle Stretching For Better Sleep

Yoga breathing, combined with gentle stretches or movements, creates the perfect environment for releasing tension and resetting the body’s natural rhythms. By incorporating these practices into your daily routine, you can significantly improve your ability to fall asleep, stay asleep, and wake up feeling refreshed.

Nicole’s classes, both in-person and online, offer a peaceful space to explore these practices. If you’re ready to experience the benefits of breathwork for yourself, I highly encourage you to join one of her sessions. Trust me, the results speak for themselves.
